LYO

The measurement shows the deviation. LYO helps you fix it.

AI-assisted troubleshooting for your paint line, developed with S4P's field experience. In pilot operation, available to pilot customers.

The name comes from the Greek lyo, to solve.

Where paint shops lose time and parts

LYO

Trouble on the late shift, and the expert is off.

The spray pattern goes off, and the one colleague who has seen it before is on leave. Often the case is already written up in an inspection report or a checklist. In the pilot we make those documents searchable, and the shift lead asks LYO.

Method

Rework turns into scrap.

A part survives one round of rework. After the second defect it is scrap. So the Technical Process Analysis looks for the cause where it often sits, upstream of application, in pretreatment, booth and air handling.

How we trace the root cause
LYO

Know-how is retiring.

What experienced people on the line know is rarely written down. In the pilot they talk, we turn it into knowledge cards, and they review every card. Their name stays on it.

How knowledge is captured

Answers when the expert is away

When something is off on the line, the fix is often already written down in an inspection report, a checklist or a table of limits. In the pilot we prepare these documents, and LYO makes them searchable on the line.

01

Ask the way people ask on the floor

A question like “Bad spray pattern after a hanger change, what do I check?” is enough. The answer is a set of checks, with the knowledge trail beside it.

Question

The spray pattern on the clearcoat robot has been unstable since the early shift. What do I check first?

Troubleshooting steps

  1. Check the condition of the air cap and nozzle head. Cleaning after every skid does not replace a scheduled change.
  2. Check spare parts before fitting them. Stored separately, spray pattern and cleaning in order.
  3. Check the drying air ring on the AutoCleaner when changing the air cap.

Knowledge trail

What was found?

  • TPA Master

    TPA 6.4
Automatic air cap cleaning after every skid, but no rule for changing or replacing gun, air cap and nozzle head.
    TPA 6.5
Store spare parts separately and check them before use, with spray pattern and cleaning.
    TPA 3.6
Check and clean the drying air ring daily when changing the air cap.
02

Capture experience before it leaves

In the pilot your experienced people talk, and we write knowledge cards from it with AI assistance. Each card carries the name of the person the knowledge comes from, and its status: draft, reviewed, verified.

  1. The expert talks
  2. AI writes the draft
  3. They review and sign off

Skid grounding, act at once

If the grounding resistance at the skid is above the trigger value or the connection is broken, the line stops at once and the grounding pin is cleaned or replaced.

Organised by the method

In the pilot we organise your documents by TPA chapter and by Ishikawa category. Measurement comes first, because a measurement system error is ruled out before anything else.

Cause catalogue, adhesion failure after the TST test

Checked in this order

  1. Test standard and test distance
  2. Test device and calibration
  3. Lab and sample storage
  4. Only then material and process

Causes in the catalogue

  • Measurement system
  • Flame activation
  • Moulding residues
  • Degreasing and rinsing
  • Dry film thickness
  • Handling by staff

If the main cause sits in the measurement system, a second device confirms the reading before the analysis is signed off.

Runs without measurement hardware

LYO works with documents. ProSense One can add readings whenever you need them.

Built on documents

The knowledge base is made of documents about the process, and no camera images go into it.

Questions about a specific day

If a question names a date, only a source with exactly that date counts as evidence.

How we use AI

Wherever a language model is involved, fixed rules apply.

01

Answers name their source

Next to every answer is the knowledge trail, the document and, where there is one, the section, such as TPA 6.4. Anyone in doubt can look it up.

02

The model is not allowed to make things up

The language model is instructed to answer only from the sources found. If they fall short, the answer says so and names what is missing.

03

The model only sees excerpts

Your question and the few excerpts that match it best, with title, location and date, go to an external provider's language model. It never sees the whole knowledge base.

Technical Process Analysis as the method

The TPA works through a paint line chapter by chapter, from part carriers to general infrastructure. No chapter is skipped, because skipping one would make plants impossible to compare.

The TPA chapters
  1. 01Jigs, skids, conveyor, loading and unloading
  2. 02Powerwash, deionisation and flaming
  3. 03Spray booths and flash-off zones
  4. 04E-Cube, paint mist separation
  5. 05Air supply, exhaust and thermal oxidiser
  6. 06Dryers, ovens and cooling
  7. 07Robotics, application, dosing, compressed air
  8. 08Paint material, mix room, ring line, pigging
  9. 09Q-Lab
  10. 10General
01

Defects often start before application

The first checks cover everything upstream of the robot: part carriers, pretreatment, booth and air handling.

02

Measurement system first, process second

If a sensor fault is suspected, a second instrument confirms the reading before anyone adjusts the dosing.

03

Done means proven

An action is closed once it demonstrably works in series production.
